Cerro Colorado

Volcán Villarrica. Chilean side of the Andes.
Lago Lacar.
The peak usually presents strongs winds.

Cerro Colorado is 12 km away from San Martín de los Andes in the direction of the Hua Hum pass.

As they say, it is a dormant volcano of just over 1700 meters high. It is interesting to reach the top to see the reason for the name: only up there you will find the “cone” made of red volcanic stone. Meanwhile, from the base to just before the end the trail is through a forest.

From the entrance gate to a stream is a flat road that takes a few minutes. After passing the water course, the challenge begins: a beautiful, winding and steep path through the forest. The effort is not minor but nothing that cannot be overcome.

After approximately 2 hours walk the panorama opens up to see the top and reach it. From above you can see all of Lacar lake, and Lanín and Villarrica volcanoes. It is an activity that takes about 4 hours. Bring water, and something to replenish strength.

In short: Oxygen, trekking, silence, adventure and reaching the peak, guarantees a unique experience.
